Ashden School of Irish Dance
Our Instructor- Sara Stahl, TCRG
I danced recreationally for 2 years and then competitively for 9. I had no idea that my first Christmas recital was the beginning of an adventure that would shape the rest of my life. I enjoyed performing at many local events; everything from small dance outs in Nursing Homes to bigger shows at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre. I also discovered that I had a passion for competing. I took part in numerous competitions throughout western Canada as well as qualifying and attending the North American Irish Dance Championships at various venues in the United States. I also qualified for and attended the World Championships in Dublin, Ireland. I worked my way up to the Open Championships level and earned a recall and medal at the North American Championships.
Irish dance taught me many life skills- perseverance,
dedication, patience, the importance of disappointment,
and of success. It also taught me how to work with a
team and helped me meet some amazing people.
I enjoy passing on my passion to others & watching
them grow as both dancers and as individuals; which is
why I opened the Ashden School of Irish Dance- it is a
chance for others to have the experience that I
enjoyed so much.
Outside of teaching dance I enjoy my career as
a Registered Nurse & spending free time with my husband,
Tyler, daughter, Teagan & puppies!
About Our Name...
Choosing the name for the school was a very challenging task for me. I wanted something that represented what I thought was important in Irish Dance and had meaning to me but I also wanted to find a name that my dancers could be proud of and look to for inspiration. I chose 3 words that I thought would be important to every dancer: Passion, Friends, and Dreams. The words were translated into Gaelic and then pieced together to form the name Ashden.
